Obituary

Mr. Tommie E Adkins, age 76, passed away September 1, 2023.  He was born on February 27, 1947 in Jacksonville, Florida to Earl Adkins and Evelyn Carter Adkins.

Mr. Adkins was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 28, 1968, and by 1975 he was a Chief Warrant Officer Grade 1 with Military Intelligence. October 1973- March 1977 he was stationed at Karlsruhe Field Office, Karlsruhe, Germany as an Operations Officer, Special Agent. November 1977- May 1980 completed an assignment for FORSCOM Intelligence Training Detachment, Fort Bragg, NC, as a Special Agent and Senior Investigator. September 1980-1986, he completed an assignment for the Polygraph Detachment, 66th Military Intelligence group, Munich, Germany, as an Operations Officer and Polygraph Examiner; September 1986-1991, he completed an assignment for the Department of Defense Polygraph Institute, Fort McClellan, Alabama as a Special Agent, Polygraph Examiner and instructor. In 1991 Tommie retired as Chief Warrant Officer Grade 4. In the following years from September 1991- May 2002 he worked for Marion County Sheriff's Office in Ocala, Florida as a Deputy Sherriff; May 2002-2012 he worked in private practice as a Polygraph Examiner; 2012- 2018 he was a Background Investigator for Federal Bureau of Investigation. Tommie's education included attending University of the State of New York, Albany, New York and got his BA in Sociology he then attended Webster University, St Louis, Mississippi where he earned his MA in Administration of Justice and Public Administration. He completed additional training in 1980-Polygraph Examiner Training Course, Fort McClellan, Alabama; 1988- FBI National Academy, 155th Session, Quantico, VA, and in 1991- Certified as a police Officer for the State of Florida. Tommie enjoyed traveling with his wife of 53 years, especially on Viking River Cruises and to Key West, Florida. His many trips to Key West fostered his great appreciation for the music of Jimmy Buffett, He loved his children and grandchildren, especially visiting with them and having them visit. He enjoyed any opportunity to speak German to the surprise of many Florida tourists. He also enjoyed getting to eat German food when he could find it.

Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by his parents Earl Adkins and Evelyn Lloyd and one brother Jimmie Adkins.

Mr. Adkins is survived by his loving wife Mary J Adkins, son Christopher and his Wife Amanda Adkins, daughter Gretchen Holland and her husband Michael Holland, grandchildren Ryan Adkins, Evan Adkins, Morgan Adkins, Katherine Ybarra and Joseph Ybarra, sister Marilyn and Jerry Pendergrass.

A time of visitation will be held from 2:30-3:30 PM, Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Cluster Springs Baptist Church at 1333 County Highway 1084, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 PM, Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Cluster Springs Baptist Church, with Reverend David Amason officiating.

Flowers are being accepted.

Burial will be held at Cluster Springs Baptist Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Army.
