Thomas Christopher
Lasseter
January 3, 1954 – July 4, 2024
Thomas Christopher Lasseter, age 70, passed away on July 4, 2024. Chris was born in DeFuniak Springs on January 3, 1954, to Irene Justice Lasseter and Thomas Copeland Lasseter. He lived here most of his life except for a few years in Pensacola and Orlando.
Chris started working as a paperboy at age ten and worked as an orderly at Lakeside Hospital from thirteen until eighteen. He graduated from Walton High School in 1972. After working in construction for several years, he received his contractor's license and worked for Jack Huggins before setting up his own business, Dream Builders. In 1979, he created the structure for one of downtown DeFuniak's favorite gathering places—the Opinion Place. In 1984, he oversaw the construction of the historically specific addition to Walton-DeFuniak Library, Florida's oldest library in continuous service. A true handyman, he could fix anything, from a leaky faucet to computer malfunctions. In his younger days, Chris enjoyed scuba diving in the Gulf and in the Bahamas. He also loved playing practical jokes and decorating the house, inside and out, for Christmas.
He is survived by his sister, Kathy Justice Gentile, and his nephew, Kynan Gentile, both of Eugene, Oregon.
At Chris's request, there will be no formal service.
