Ted Myles Bishop, 68, of Bruce, Florida, died, July 13, 2022, in Panama City, Florida surrounded by his loving family.
Ted was born on August 17, 1953 in Defuniak Springs, Florida. He was the 4th of six children. He is preceded in death by his parents Hurtis Myles Bishop and Verlon Smith Johnson, and older brother Curtis.
Ted left high school at the young age of 18 to start his family. He obtained his high school certificate in 29 Palms, California.
One of Ted's proudest accomplishments was the two years he served his country in the United States Marine Corp. It was there that he earned his certificate as a heavy equipment operator. He served from 1974 to 1976. When he came home, he continued his service by joining the Department of Defense's civilian workforce at Eglin Air Force Base. His received many awards for his performance in multiple positions to include detecting and putting out range fires, refrigeration technician at the Climatic Laboratory and as a boiler mechanic with the Civil Engineering Squadron. During his working time, he simultaneously owned and operated his own shrimp boat. He ended his 30-year career with the Department of Defense in 2004.
Ted loved family and friends. He was a loving and devoted dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a giving and caring soul, never hesitating to help others.
Throughout his life he remained an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed mullet fishing, shrimping, gigging for flounder and catching bream and shellcracker. He loved cooking and sharing his catches even more! Ted enjoyed boat riding on the Choctawhatchee River and the Choctawhatchee Bay where he grew up. He loved telling his stories and he did have many stories to tell. He loved watching wrestling, daily visits with friends at the Bruce Café and helping others. He was always on the go! He loved visiting folks all over and they loved his visits!
Ted is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Bobby Tharp of Panama City, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Trevor and Amy Bishop of Panama City, Florida; four grandchildren, Lauren Ashley, Stephen, Mackenzie (Jade), and Lauren Paige, and three great grandchildren, Uriah, Zayden and Isabella (Irie). He is further survived by siblings, Wanda Davidson, Dianne Lambert, Ned Bishop and Rita Courter of Bruce, Florida, his Aunt Phyllis Young of Bruce, Florida and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
A Time of Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home; 150 East Highway 20, Freeport, Florida 32439.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Presley officiating.
Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Marine Corps.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Bishop, Kenneth Davidson, Kenneth Davidson Jr., Trevor Bishop, and Rey Feo.
