Obituary

Mrs. Mavis Louise Foster, age 80, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025.  She was born on November 26, 1944 in Pensacola, Florida to James Herbert McGowin and Virga Pitman McGowin.

Mrs. Foster had been a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida for 22 years. She was Baptist by faith and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a very devoted Army wife while her husband completed three tours in Vietnam, and throughout his 21-year career in the United States Army. She also owned and operated her own childcare business and was a very talented cook. Her father described her as the best cook in Pensacola.

Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her father and mother; her sister Patricia Heywood; and one son, John Christopher Foster.

Mrs. Foster is survived by her husband of 64 years, Patrick B. Foster; her children, James Steven Foster and wife Kember Lyn, and Catherine J. Foster; five grandchildren, Jenny Foster and husband Matt Sherman, Katie Foster, Jack Chamberlain Foster and wife Mary, Ellaura Jenevieve Jamerson and husband 1st Lieutenant Brendan Jamerson, and Sydney Rae Williams; two great-grandchildren, Maggie Rose Foster and Jenevieve Lynn Jamerson; her brother James D. McGowin and wife Myra; and her sister Linda Branan and husband Charles.

Burial will be held at a later date at Barrancas National Cemetery.
