Ms. June Marie Smoot, age 86, was received by her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, Tuesday, October 29, 2024. She was born March 28, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri to George and Evelyn Short Meyers.
Ms. Smoot was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, moving from Osage City, Kansas. She was Christian by faith and a member of the Kingdom Connections Ministry, Prayer Link Ministries and Aglow. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Beyond being a Kansas farm girl, she owned and operated numerous business', including restaurants and insurance adjustment services. She also owned a Building Company which built many homes in Kansas. She was an inventor, having invented Diva Marie Bonnets. She was also a faith filled woman who endured many adversities and losses with dignity and grace. Blessed with a generous heart, she enjoyed helping, loving and nurturing others. She gained many sons, daughters and grandchildren in Florida through her loving heart.
As a descendent of Susanna White Winslow, survivor of the Mayflower, Ms. Smoot was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Georgia Chancellor, son-in-law Larry Padgett, children, David DeBrabander, Daniel DeBrabander, Dawn Padgett and grandson Nikki Sorrells.
Ms. Smoot is survived by her daughter, Denise Sorrells and husband Anthony Bret, grandchildren, Ellise M. Sorrells (Morgan Heitger) and Bert A. Sorrells, grandson (by Dawn), Chase Padgett; daughter, Debora Arnett, grandchildren, Emily Hedges and Brandon, Richard Arnett, Ashley Arnett-Shipley and Matt, great grandchildren, Mason Hedges and Lila Hedges. And many who were as children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to her during her 7 years in Florida; especially bonded in heart as a grandmother to Ava and Piper Ziebell and Caleb and Vanessa Ziebell. She is also survived by her brother Robert (Gloria) Meyers of Kansas City and cousin, John David (Treva) Kizer.
Celebration of life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 17, 2024 at the Gathering Place; 288 North 9th Street, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.
