Ms. Jan Caldwell Gunniss, age 84, left this world on August 28th, 2023. She was born on April 19, 1939, in Kinston, Alabama to Walter Murphy Caldwell and Pennie Byrd Caldwell.

Jan was a resident of Gulf Breeze, Florida. She worked as a realtor for 30 years. Southern cooking was one of her passions and you never left hungry. Jan was a shining example of selflessness and unwavering love. As a mother, she dedicated her life to nurturing and guiding her children with compassion and patience. As a grandmother, Jan brought joy and laughter into the lives of her grandchildren. Beyond her role as a devoted mother and grandmother, Jan was known for her unwavering support of her family & friends. Her wisdom and kindness were a constant source of inspiration, helping her family and friends to navigate life's challenges with incredible grace. She was a great listener and advice giver. She enjoyed listening to music with friends and could dance into the late hours. She loved spending time with her fantastic neighbors and was generous to multiple charities. Our Mother will forever be remembered for her incredible strength, caring ways, and the love she shared with all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on through the love and values she instilled in her family and friends.

Jan was preceded in death by her father and mother. Walter Murphy Caldwell and Pennie Bryd Caldwell and three sisters Margaret Householder, Sara Banister, and Louise Cripps.

She is survived by her two children Ben Gunniss and wife Traci Gunniss of Spring, Texas, and Beth Gunniss of DeFuniak Springs, Florida: two grandchildren Skylar Gunniss and Mason Gunniss and her grand dog Kenai. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. All will continue to honor her memory by carrying forward the lessons she taught and the love she gave.

A celebration of Jan's life will be held in October 2023.
