Thompson

Mr. Harlin Joe Thompson ("Joe"), age 88, passed away June 28, 2023. He was born on February 3, 1935 in Fyffe, Alabama to Griff Thompson and Florence Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a resident of Freeport, Florida. Joe graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and then attended Auburn University where he started dating his wife of 64 years, Gloria Stevens. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity of which his grandson also became a member. He was an Air Force civil servant retiring after 34 years as a Financial Specialist at Eglin Air Force Base. He loved playing softball, flag football and played until the age of 67. He also played the role of Drosselmeyer in Northwest Florida Ballet's Nutcracker for 20 years with both his daughter and granddaughter. He spent many hours of his early retirement years caring for his grandson and granddaughter, and during his entire retirement enjoyed his winters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico as well as traveling all over the world with Gloria.
Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother, Griff and Florence Thompson; brother, Harold Thompson and sister, Evie Hawkins.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Gloria Thompson of Freeport, Florida; daughters Lynda Rutledge (Brian) of Miami, Florida, Leslie Kaiser (Norm) of Freeport, Florida; grandson, Hunter Wagner (Julianna) of Houston, Texas, granddaughter Alex Gallup (R.B.) of Chapin, South Carolina; three great grandsons, Harrison and Cole Wagner of Houston, Texas and Brew Gallup of Chapin, South Carolina.
A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM, Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home; 150 East Highway 20 East, Freeport, Florida 32439.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home.
Reception immediately following service at the Thompson residence: 166 Buxtons Way, Freeport, Florida 32439.

Burial will be held at Beal Memorial Cemetery at a later date with no graveside services.
