Frances Catherine
Lathinghouse Campbell Jones
January 11, 1918 – December 23, 2025
Frances Catherine Lathinghouse Campbell Jones passed away December 23 rd , 2025, at home.
She was born January 11, 1918, to William Ross Lathinghouse Sr. and Nellie Taylor Lathinghouse in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, where she lived her entire life of nearly 108 years. She attended Palmer Academy where she was valedictorian and, by all accounts, the belle of the school—and was also voted most popular at Walton. Born and raised a Methodist, she became a Presbyterian after marrying local attorney Angus Graham Campbell in 1939 and they raised three daughters on Plateau Avenue, where she lived until her death. Beloved by all who knew her, Frances served her church and community in countless ways. She worked for First National Bank, the Clerk of the Court, the Welfare Office, and volunteered at Maude Saunders Elementary School as well as a Pink Lady at the local hospital for more than 35 years. A devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of DeFuniak Springs, she gave faithfully and joyfully of her time and energies. She was a member of several circle meetings, serving the longest in Covenant Circle. She was the first female Elder of the church, served many terms as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School classes, sang in the chancel choir, and was a tireless hostess for the Presbyterian Men's Brotherhood. She was a member of and held offices in the church's Presbyterian Women, as well as in Florida Presbyterian Women and received an honorary life membership from both in the 1980s. She was a founding member and past president of the New Year's Eve Society. She was the heart and soul of her family, which reached far and wide, and her home provided a warm and welcoming gathering place in all seasons. In particular, she hosted joyful Christmases for decades, which expressed how important faith, family, and their intersection were in her life.
She was predeceased by her brothers Thomas Lathinghouse and Ross Lathinghouse; her first husband Graham Campbell and second husband Eddie Jones; and her daughters Cathy Campbell Reese and Beth Campbell-Work.
She is survived by her daughter Dawn Campbell; stepdaughters Barbara Flatau (Marshall), Brenda Jones, and Tanya Jones; grandchildren Kate Haulman (Guy Nelson), Graham Campbell- Work (Lora), Brut Campbell-Work (Chelsea), and Hamp Campbell-Work, with whom she lived and who cared for her; great grandchildren MacKinnon, Thomas, Hallie, Catherine, Gray, Bethany, and Onna Mae; and many beloved members of her extended family.
