Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn Mashburn Cawthon, age 79, passed away September 14, 2025.  She was born on August 11, 1946 in Panama City, Florida to Lloyd D. Mashburn and Audrey Watson Mashburn.

Mrs. Cawthon was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and a long time resident of Bay County, Florida. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was Baptist by faith and a member of Highland Park Baptist Church in Panama City, Florida. She was a veteran of the Armed Forces having served her country in the United States Army Reserves. While serving her country from April 20, 1977 to November 5, 1988, she became a Specialist E-5, received a grade determination through the Civilian Acquired Skills Program. She served as Company Clerk 833rd . She later received the Army Commendation Metal on June 11, 1980, for meritorious service and the award as Soldier of the Year 1979 from 833rd  PSC (Type D.) She graduated from Rutherford High School in 1964 and then went to Nashville State Area Vocational Technical School in Nashville, Tennessee and was a Practical Nursing Graduate on September 15, 1989. She was a clerk for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Tallahassee, Florida in 1968, then was promoted to Board of Administrations in 1969 and eventually moved to State Beverage Department in 1970. She later joined the Florida Division of Corrections in Tallahassee and moved to Division of Family Services in 1973 and by 1974 she was at the Northwest Florida Mental Health Center in Panama City, Florida, where she was the Executive Secretary. In 1989 She moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to be part of the Manor Health Corporation until 1991. In 1992 she moved back to Panama City, Florida to join St. Andrews Health and Rehab as supervisor.

Mrs. Cawthon was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wayne Mashburn and Donald Mashburn and one daughter, Kelley Christman.

Mrs. Cawthon is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Richard L. Cawthon; two children, Cameron Bailey McAdams and Teresa Lynn Shriner and her husband Will; four grandchildren, Brandon Christman, Ryan Christopher Mosley and his wife Amanda, Ashley Nicole Richner and her husband William and Candace Breann Gable and her husband Nick; great grandchildren, Koby, Samantha, Michael, Aubrey, CJ, Maxwell, Scarlett, Presley, Haven, Ember and River; one brother Jimmy Mashburn and one sister, Mary Catherine Dorman.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Mashburn Cemetery; 6331 Buford King Lane, Youngstown, Florida 32466; with Reverend Jimmy Mashburn officiating.

Flowers are being accepted.

Burial will be held at Mashburn Cemetery.
