Dr. Dennis F. Ray, age 92, passed away December 8, 2022. He was born on November 29, 1930 in Crestview, Florida to Neal F. Ray and Lela Mae Sellers Ray.
Dr. Ray was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving his country in the United States Navy. He graduated from the University of Florida, receiving his Bachelor's, Master's and PHD in Business Administration. He taught as a college professor at the University of Alabama and Mississippi State University. He was head of the Management Department in the College of Business at Mississippi State University and the founding editor of the Journal of Management. He was honored as a Fellow of the Academy of Business Management. He owned and operated several businesses and was the president of the Heritage Association in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He also served as chairman of the Florida Chautauqua Association. He was instrumental in the preservation of the Caboose, Clock, and Museum in DeFuniak Springs. He also served as a DeFuniak Springs City Council Member.
Dr. Ray was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister Lucille Hanks; and two brothers, Cleatus Ray and Delon Ray.
Dr. Ray is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Cox Ray of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at Piney Grove Church with Edison Barnhart officiating.
Burial will be held in the Piney Grove Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Navy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the historic Piney Grove Church in care of Tim Ray at 570 Piney Grove Church Road, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433.
