Danny Gene
Houchins
November 17, 1950 – March 15, 2024
Danny Gene Houchins, age 73, of 406 Bass Haven Dr., DeFuniak Springs, died March
15, 2024, at home from complications of Congestive Heart Failure.
Born November 17, 1950, in Amarillo, Texas, to Garland and Mary (Hundley) Houchins.
He lived most of his life in Amarillo, Texas. He worked many jobs; from running a
grocery store, working on video games for arcades, as a glazier to remodeling and
construction. He loved working with wood and glass the most and spent many years
doing residential construction; even owning a construction company with a great friend
for several years. He, wife Lola, and five stepchildren moved to Okay, Oklahoma in
1989. This is where he started his construction business. He and Lola designed and
built a log home there, from scratch not a kit. They went on to buy and remodel a
historic home built in 1897 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. After coming to DeFuniak Springs,
Florida in the mid-2000s, on a tour down the East Coast in their travel trailer and staying
at Bass Haven RV Campground, they returned to Muskogee for a year. Then they
decided they loved it so much, they bought the campground and made Florida their
home. Danny is survived by his sons Jimmy Houchins, Jason Houchins (and wife Corey) of
Amarillo, James Honea (and wife Amber) of Amarillo, and daughter Tiffany Cloyd (and
husband Jay) of Amarillo. Also, by stepdaughter Misty Prado (of DeFuniak Springs) and
stepsons James Cook of Muskogee, Chris Cook (and wife Rowena) of Saipan, Rickey
Lee Cook of Okay, and Russell (Doug) Cook of Okay. He and Lola are survived by
many grandchildren; Zoe, Elizabeth, Kensly, Jeremy, Hunter, Austin, Elisa, Brooklynn,
Jackson, Brittany, Felicity, Nicolas, Christoper, Jordan, Gabrial, Gentry, Gabriella, and
Gracie Lynn. They are also survived by many great-grandchildren, as well as many
friends. Per Danny's wishes, there will be no service. There will be a memorial for he and Lola in
Muskogee, OK (date TBD). In Lew of flowers please donate the GoFundMe account to
help cover the cost of cremation (https://gofundme/e71136fb). Arrangements entrusted to Clary-Glenn Funeral Home. You may offer condolences ,share memories and sign the guestbook at www.clary-glenn.com
