Stokes, Jr.

Mr. Daniel Webster Stokes, Jr., age 77, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023. He was born December 7, 1945 in Tampa, Florida to Daniel Webster Stokes, Sr and Lillian Knight Stokes.
Mr. Stokes was a resident of Freeport, Florida. He was Christian by faith and a member of the Bible Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era serving his country in the United States Army before retiring with over 21 years of service as a sergeant, having been awarded the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Aircraft Crewmember Badge, Meriterious Unit Citation, Army Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Valorous Unit Award, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), Air Medal (Numeral 7), Army Service Ribbon, and National Defense Service Medal. He was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and collecting model airplanes. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR.
Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Stokes and Wayne Wilson; and one sister, Doreen Wilson.
Mr. Stokes is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sharon I. Stokes; children, Mercy Wimbish and husband Michael, Danetta Tolar and husband Seth Tolar, Sherri Treadway and husband Michael, and Daniel Stokes III and wife Jessica; two brothers Bartlett Wilson and wife Vera and Lester Wilson and wife Lora.
A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Friday, March 24, 2023 at Bible Baptist Church; 15139 Highway 331 Business, Freeport, Florida 32439.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 24, 2023 at Bible Baptist Church, with Pastor Markus Scruggs officiating.
Flowers are being accepted.
Burial will follow in the Historic Gulf Cemetery; 1466 South County Highway 393, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459, with military honors by the United States Army.
