Obituary

Brenda Carolyn Cuneo passed peacefully in the early morning hours of March 23, 2023. Carolyn, who was known to most as "Miss Carolyn", was born in Geneva County, Alabama on June 8, 1949 the second born child of six to Shellie D. and Ruby Evelyn Boutwell.

Carolyn lived most of her childhood and early adult years in Columbus, Georgia surrounded by her large family, including loving aunts, uncles, dear cousins, and treasured friends. Carolyn graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus in 1967, a few years later as a young wife and mother, Carolyn relocated to Tallahassee, Florida where she would remain for the next fifteen years while she raised her daughter, Lisa. It was there that she met and later married George Cuneo. Carolyn and George shared a passion for Italian food and serving others. This is what led them to DeFuniak Springs, Florida in 1988. George and Carolyn purchased Mom & Dad's Italian Restaurant from the Hinote family which had once belonged to their close friends, the Violante family. This was a labor of love for Carolyn and George, they spent long hours side by side building the business, feeding their community, and forging friendships that lasted decades. Carolyn loved everything about the restaurant, and her customers and staff were like family to her. With a heavy heart Carolyn decided in September 2022 that it was time to retire.  While the initial decision was difficult, Carolyn was happy to finally have time to relax and spend time doing the things that she enjoyed. As a family, it breaks our hearts that she did not have more time, but we treasure what she had and memories were made.

Carolyn is pre-deceased by her parents; husband, George Cuneo; and brothers, Lamar Boutwell and Jeffery Boutwell.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Pitts (Joe); grandchildren, Shelley Cotton (Matt), Anthony Pitts, and Lainey Pitts; great-granddaughter, Loralie Cotton all of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; her brothers, Randy Boutwell of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Keith Boutwell (Monica) of Columbus, Georgia, Kenny Boutwell (Trish) of Pine Mountain, Georgia; sister in law, Sonja Boutwell of Pennsylvania; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Carolyn also leaves behind her best friend of over fifty years, Judith Hewitt; precious friends, Carolyn Ingram, Patricia Pineda, and Justin Blevins; and her dearly loved Mom & Dad's staff that she considered family. When Carolyn loved you, she loved you hard, with fierce loyalty and a helping hand or a stern talking to when needed. A truer friend could not be found.

A time of visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Monday, March 27, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Joel Glenn officiating.
