Cummings
September 12, 1932 – February 3, 2022
Mr. Bobby Ed Cummings, age 89, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022. He was born on September 12, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama to Dalton and Thelma Bell Cummings.
Mr. Cummings was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, FL after moving from Ft. Myers in 1976. He was a member of the Lee Memorial Hospital Board in Ft. Myers, FL where he served as Chairman of the Board. He was Baptist by faith and a member of The First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs, FL where he served as a Deacon. He served as the Baptist Men's Director for the Walton County Baptist Association and also served as a Gideon with the Gideons International and the Walton County Gideon Camp. He helped start the Pregnancy Support Center in DeFuniak Springs and was one of the founders of the Feeding the 5000 event at the Lakeyard in DeFuniak Springs, FL. He was also a veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the United States Army as a combat engineer and Staff Sergeant. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal for his valor in combat.
Mr. Cummings was preceded in death by his father and mother; his first wife, Barbara Cummings; four brothers, Barry Joe Cummings, Buddy Ray Cummings, Billy Cummings, and Cecil Smith; his stepmother Esther Cummings; and one great-great-granddaughter, Molly Sheffield.
Mr. Cummings is survived by his wife, Joanne Cummings of DeFuniak Springs, FL; son Jeff E. Cummings (Karen) of DeFuniak Springs, FL; daughter Donna Ann Huckaba (Earl) of DeFuniak Springs, FL; his step-children, Mike Webster (Tamara) and Paul Webster (Christine); brothers Burtis Cummings (Linda) of Temple, TX, Beryl Cummings (Linda) of Birmingham, AL, and Charlie Cummings (Mary) of Leeds, AL; sisters Betty Conn of Tuscaloosa, AL, Burdette Whitley of Mobile, AL, and Joyce Watkins of Arab, AL; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and eighteen great-great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held from, 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs; 216 Live Oak Avenue E, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at The First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs with Reverend Jerry Chumley and Reverend Tim Burnham officiating.
Flowers will be accepted.
Burial will be held at Magnolia Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Army.
