Ms. Billie Crocker Pennewell Rice, age 83, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023. She was born on March 8, 1940 in Suffolk, Virginia to William Joseph Crocker, Jr. and Bernice Isabell Moody.

Mom was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, originally from Virginia. She graduated in 1958 from Suffolk High School in Suffolk, Virginia. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked at Fisher's Pharmacy for many years and always greeted each customer with a smile.  She wrapped many presents for all occasions and made beautiful bows.  She volunteered at the Walton County Humane Society for over 20 years, and she also worked as a substitute teacher.  She loved to volunteer in her community and was always willing to help others during their time of need.  She loved her family, gardening, animals and going to the beach.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; her first husband Carroll Pennewell; her second husband Ray Rice; sister Bernice King; and son Brad Pennewell.

Billie is survived by her life partner Frank Rosenbaum of DeFuniak Springs; one daughter Dawne Dries and husband Ronald of DeFuniak Springs; four grandchildren Ryan Pennewell and wife Stephanie, Kristen Stuck, Zachary Pennewell and Mail Lee, Chase Blaich and wife Chelsea; eleven great-grandchildren Cadence, Abagail, Daisy, Racelyn, Jace, Schyler, Cooper, Adelyn, Brantly, Kailani and Antonio.  She is also survived by a host of friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 728 Country Club Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.  If you have any pictures you would like to share with the family, we encourage you to bring those with you.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Walton County Animal Shelter located at 365 Triple G Road in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.
