Earl Franklin Day passed peacefully from this life on November 17, 2013 surrounded by family and holding the hand of his granddaughter, Anna. His death, like his life, was a testimony to his unending love for his family. Born in Eucheanna, Florida and raised in DeFuniak Springs, Earl joined the military in 1943. His naval career spanned 30 years and took him to many foreign lands. He fought for his country in 14 wars, including WWII, and retired at the highly respected rank of Commander. He later managed Jacksonville Shipyards for 17 years before he and his wife returned to Seagrove Beach, Florida to enjoy retirement, the beach and their many grandchildren, who were his joy. Earl served God all of his life and raised his four children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. He served as an Elder in the Jacksonville Beach Church of Christ for many years, and later served faithfully as a member of the Fort Walton Beach Church of Christ. His life was Christ-centered and he was a faithful and dedicated servant who loved helping others. Earl will be greeted in heaven by his much loved daughter, Paula; his parents Anna and Albert Day; his brother JB; his sisters Evelyn Rushing and Wynell Loftis; his in-laws Raynell and Harold Goodwin; and many other dearly loved friends and relatives. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sarah Ella Day; daughter Pamela Asher and husband Jim of Texarkana, Texas; son Robert Day and daughter-in-law, Laura of Apollo Beach, Florida; and daughter Trisha Day LeClere of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. He leaves 12 beloved grandchildren to carry on his legacy: Stephen Riggs, Robby Day, Sterling Riggs, Brian Day, Jade Asher, Jimmy Asher, Stewart Riggs, Ashley Day, Anna Day, Sarah Ann Marcrom, Erica Gercken and Eden Papciak, as well as 13 precious great grandchildren and many cherished friends, including Bill and Debbie McGrady of Birmingham, Alabama. Earl will be remembered as a loyal and devoted husband to Sarah; an amazing, loving father to his children; and a cherished and unforgettable Pop Pop to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His smile, wit, hugs and kisses will be dearly missed but made memories forever etched in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have been loved by him. He was our hero, our provider, our best friend and supporter. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Sacred Heart Emerald Coast and Gentiva Health Care, with special thanks to Derek Wilk for his compassion and service. The family will welcome friends Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Clary Glenn Funeral Home in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. A celebration of Earls life will be held on Wednesday, 10:00 am, November 20 followed by interment at Magnolia cemetery, with Military Honors by the United States Navy. Floral arrangements are being accepted.
