Willie Ray
Gomillion
March 17, 1933 – May 30, 2024
Willie Ray Gomillion, age 91, of Ponce de Leon, Florida, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
Born on March 17, 1933, to Jesse Gomillion and Charlotte (Lottie) Infinger Gomillion in Eucheeanna, Florida, Willie attended Eucheeanna School and then worked for Vitro Services for 27 years.
In 1963, Willie was involved in a workplace incident that required the amputation of his left arm. While physically impacted, he never considered himself handicapped and learning to live a full life, molded the loss into one of his greatest strengths.
Willie was an avid sportsman with a passion for fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening. It was often remarked that when you went fishing with Willie, it felt like you were in used waters, as he could and often did, outperform everyone else in the boat. His love of fishing so obvious, that following his second marriage, his sister joked, "When he quits baiting your hook, the honeymoon's over." Little did they know, Willie continued to bait Lorene's hook until his vision made it impossible. Willie's greatest joys were Jesus Christ and his family. As a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Willie devoted himself to his church family and serving the Lord. As a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, Willie loved surrounding himself with the laughter and energy he'd helped to create. Willie is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Shirley Garrett Gomillion, his step-daughter Beverly Griffin, and his siblings: Gladys Odom, Lula Belle Campbell, Ethelene Infinger, Irma Jean Hall, Gene Gomillion, and Harold Gomillion.
He is survived by his wife Lorene Ellis Gomillion of Crestview, FL; daughter Brenda Wells of DeFuniak Springs, FL; son Tony and wife Tareesa Gomillion of Freeport, FL; son Larry and wife Jenny Gomillion of DeFuniak Springs, FL; granddaughter Joy and husband Forrest Wilson of Walters, OK; granddaughter Tiffany and husband Michael Kruger of Crestview, FL; grandson Kale and wife Dana Gomillion of DeFuniak Springs, FL; grandson Brad and wife Hannah Gomillion of Freeport, FL; granddaughter Morgan Gomillion of Freeport, FL; grandson Grady Luke and wife Naomi of DeFuniak Springs, FL; granddaughter Brandi Bundrick; grandson Paul Ellis; grandson Travis and wife Sarah Griffin; great-grandchildren: Anna, Mallory, Wyatt, Raylee, Wade, Kalynn, Adalyn, Caleb, Haley, Brittany, Kayle, Blake, and Jacob; great-great grandson Jude; sisters Luvern Richardson and Mavis Overstreet, sisters-in-law, Sybil Davis and Reba Blankenship and husband Bill.
