Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the passing of husband, father, and friend to many, William Michael McDaniel, age 65, of Florala, Alabama. He was cared for by his wife and children at his home until the moment he left this world on Sunday, May 3, 2026. At death, he was welcomed by his father, William Henry Grady McDaniel, mother, Betty Rogers McDaniel, and sister, Lisa McDaniel Crane. He most unwillingly left behind his wife of 34 years, Samantha Kelley McDaniel, his son, William Ellis McDaniel and daughter-in-law, Nina McClanahan McDaniel, and his daughter, Lily Margaret McDaniel. He was Uncle Michael, cousin, nephew, co-worker, friend, and Twig to a special few.

Michael was a life-long resident of Florala and would choose no other dot on the globe to call home. He was well educated by Florala City School and was a member of Florala High School’s graduating class of 1978. He attended Auburn University, obtaining a degree in Industrial Management, but far more important to him, he made many lasting memories and enduring friendships. He was a member of Fidelity Lodge F&AM #685 in Florala, as was his father and grandfather before him.

He did not light up the room when he walked in, and he wouldn’t want us to pretend he did. He was private, independent, and loyal to all who earned his loyalty. This spirit which characterized his life translated into lessons he earnestly imparted onto those around him. He possessed a fervent work ethic and firm understanding of what was important – the simplicity of living a life with those you love.

If you knew him at all, you know his love of the outdoors, dove and quail hunting, and his many, many companion hunting dogs.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, Friday, May 8, 2026 at Florala Methodist Church, 1310 5th Street, Florala, AL 36442, followed by a Celebration of Life with Reverend Kevin Holland officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Florala Methodist Church or to a charity of your choosing.
