Mr. Wiley Hillard Cosson, age 87, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023. He was born on June 29, 1935 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to Albert and Crealous Henderson Cosson.
Mr. Cosson was a Christian by faith and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Wiley grew up in the Alaqua Community and was given chores and responsibilities on his family's farm. He loved hunting in the Alaqua woods and fishing in the creek along with his cousins. Mr. Cosson graduated from Walton High School with the class of 1954. He graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Industrial Business Management and Mathematics. He was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Wiley started his teaching career at Pryor Junior High School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and Valley View School. He taught mathematics (Algebra) at Walton High School until his retirement. In the summers, Wiley worked on construction jobs, mainly electrical projects on buildings and flight runways at Eglin and Hurlburt field. At home, he was involved in gardening, raising cattle, and general building needs. He was a devoted, honorable, and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Wiley is preceded in death by his father and mother; his first wife Reba Gore Cosson (mother of Twyla and Ashly); his brothers Shakespeare Albert "S.A." Cosson, Richard "Harry" Cosson; and his sister Winnie Wilkerson Williamson.
Mr. Cosson is survived by his wife of 47 years Linda "Carol" Chandler Cosson; his son Wiley Ashly Cosson and wife Sheri; daughters Twyla Cosson Hall and husband Adrian, Monika Renee Cosson; grandchildren Tyler Hall, Paige Hall Provost and husband Orfeo, Emily Hall, Thomas Cosson, Midian "Middy" Cosson Penberg and husband Braeden, Sara Faith Hall, Jackson Sheppard, Parker Sheppard; great-grandchildren Gracie Provost, Maddie Provost, Bentley Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435, with Reverend Joel Glenn officiating.
Flowers are being accepted.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery; 1015 Pleasant Ridge Road, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.
