Virginia (Ginny) Marie Casey Smidt passed away on May 23, 2026 at her home in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida in the company of her loving family. Ginny was born in Seattle, Washington on August 11, 1943 to Thomas J. Casey and Alice Quinn Casey. Her father was serving as a lieutenant in the United States Army at the time of her birth. She spent her early years in Levittown, New York before moving to where she would spend the rest of her youth, Wantagh, New York. She graduated from Wantagh High School in 1962. She then studied French at the University of Montpellier in France. She was married on August 21, 1965 to James E. Smidt. Ginny and James moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1972 where they raised their family for 52 years.

Ms. Smidt is survived by her husband James Smidt; her children, Katheleen Smidt Bell and Christine Smidt Davidson; her grandchildren, Oliver Davidson, Eve Davidson, Anna Bell, Graeme Davidson, John Bell, and Virgina Kate Bell; and her younger brothers, James Casey and Jerome Casey. Her siblings Tommy, Stanley, and Steven and her parents preceded her.
