Valerie Ann Wideman, born on October 31, 1950, passed away on August 17, 2026, marking the close of a life characterized by devotion, creativity, and enduring love for her family and community.
Valerie’s legacy is woven deeply into the fabric of those she held dear. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ron Wideman Jr., with whom she shared a partnership filled with warmth, faith, and the joy of nurturing both family and art. Together they raised two sons, Ryan Wideman and Ronnie Wideman III, both of whom carry forward her spirit and values. Valerie lovingly welcomed her daughters-in-law, Dona and Steph, into the family, and found endless pride and happiness in her grandchildren, Collin and Sophie Wideman.
Her family circle extended further to include her brothers, Glen Griffith, and Warren Griffith, as well as her sisters, Cindy, Barbara, Diane, Vicky, and Leslie. Paula, her sister-in-law, was also an important presence in her life. Valerie was preceded in death by her father, Warren Griffith, and her mother, Janet Binks Griffith, whose influences and love she cherished throughout her life.
Valerie’s commitment to education and the arts was exceptional. After graduating from Yale University with a Masters in Art, she dedicated over 40 years to teaching as an Art Teacher at St. John’s Episcopal School in Homestead, Florida. Through her guidance and expertise, she inspired countless students to appreciate beauty, express themselves with creativity, and cultivate their talents.
A resident of Choctaw, Florida, Valerie shaped her community with the same care and grace with which she led her family and students. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, always generous with her affection and encouragement. Together with her husband and loved ones, she found immense joy in sharing her passion for art, making their home a place of learning, beauty, and togetherness. Her faith was an important cornerstone, and she lived her life as a Christian, guided by compassion and kindness in all her actions.
Valerie Ann Wideman’s memory endures in the hearts of those who knew her best. Her legacy of artistry, cherished traditions, and unwavering love will continue to illuminate the lives of her family and the many students and friends she touched throughout her remarkable life.
Celebration of life services will be held at a later date.
