Obituary

Thelma Virgina Shank (Ginger as she was known to her friends and family) passed away in Defuniak Springs, Florida on May 21st, 2022  with her family by her side.

Daughter of Henry (Hank) and Alice Furr, Ginger was born on August 1 st , 1951 in Washington DC. She spent her childhood years in Falls Church, Virginia where she graduated from Falls Church High School. She then attended Shenandoah College before meeting her first husband Gilbert G. Morrison, Jr. After many years and raising three sons in Springfield, Virginia, she met and married William Shank Jr. They traveled the United States and finally settled in Defuniak Springs, Florida.

Ginger lived life to the fullest and brightened every room she entered - especially when wearing her infamous pink jacket. She was a lover of all kinds of music, from classical to country and could never pass up a good book. She traveled often to visit family and friends but no matter where she went, if she wasn't in sight, she could be found at the nearest beach most likely enjoying a glass of wine and people watching. Ginger never knew a stranger and always made anyone feel welcome and comfortable. She had a calm, patient soul - finely tuned by raising three boys - and will be greatly missed.

Ginger was preceded in death by her husband William Shank in 2017 and is survived by her sister Audrey, her three sons Jason, Wes and Dan Morrison, her grandchildren Tristan, Cayden, Charlotte, Iris, and Kayla, as well as many other family members, friends, and neighbors who all knew and loved her.

Her life will be celebrated in Defuniak Springs at the VFW on June 5th at 2pm.  She will be buried next to her husband Bill at Arlington National Cemetery on a date yet to be determined.  There will be a celebration of her life in Northern Virginia at this time as well.
