Mr. Robert Laurence Shearer, age 82, passed away March 15, 2022. He was born on September 2,1939 in Columbus, Kansas to Laurence George Shearer and Barbara Ziona Shardelman Shearer.
Robert was a resident of Destin, Florida. He was a Christian by faith and attended Destiny Worship Center Miramar Beach Campus where he enjoyed singing in the choir and working with the church small groups. He was a Veteran of the Koren Conflict and Vietnam Era, serving his country in the United States Army with over 20 years of service; before retiring as a Major. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He worked as an engineer with Lockheed Martin in Baltimore, Maryland and New Orleans, Louisiana. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends, and was a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Laurence Shearer, mother Barbara Shearer, sister Roberta Olsen and brother Steven Shearer.
Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years Virginia Lee Shearer of Destin, Florida; children Robert L. Shearer II and wife Susanne of Sykesville, Maryland and Jeffery Shearer of Woodbine, Maryland; grandchildren Terri Kimble and husband Kenny, Jessica Shearer and Robert L. Shearer III; great grandchildren Cayden and Jackson and two sisters Lorna Newton and husband Ben and Lori Ames. Also survived by beloved nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Services will be held 4:30 PM, Monday, March 28, 2022 at Destiny Worship Center Miramar Beach Campus; 122 Poinciana Blvd, Miramar Beach, FL 32550, with military Honors by the United States Army.
Burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida; 1 Cemetery Rd, Pensacola, FL 32508.
