Obituary

Mr. Robert Earl Guy, age 85, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023. He was born on March 19, 1938 in Childersburg, Alabama to Lawrence and Frances Bryant Guy.

Mr. Guy was a resident of Marianna, Florida. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era serving his country in the United States Army as a Chief Warrant Officer CW3. He also served in the United States Navy. While in the military, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for distinguishing himself by exceptionally meritorious service in conjunction with ground operations against hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam between March 1971 and January 1972. As a result of his unique degree of professionalism and intense personal devotion to mission fulfillment, Mr. Guy was able to achieve unparalleled accuracy in every endeavor. Each facet of his service was characterized by remarkable foresight and timely manner of execution. Through his attitude, skill, desire, and "can do" manner, he unfailingly continued the successful accomplishment of the mission of support for marine watercraft throughout the Republic of Vietnam. His performance was in the best traditions of military service and reflected great credit upon himself, the United States Army Marine Maintenance Activity, Vietnam, and the United States Army. He was a member of Moose Lodge #1026 in Marianna, Florida. Mr. Guy enjoyed fishing, knife collecting, and coin collecting. He also enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Guy was preceded in death by father and mother; one son prior United States Marine Corps and United States Coast Guard Veteran Robert E. Guy, II; and two brothers Joseph Guy and Bruce Wayne Guy.

Mr. Guy is survived by his two sons Russell Earl Guy, United States Coast Guard Master Chief Retired Shane Melvin; six daughters Anita Taunton (Donald Ray), Delores Tullis (Bobby), Gina Hendriks (Paul), Dana Tanner (Brad), Jessica Lambert, Tiffany Lawson (Kelly); three sisters Mary Guy, Emma Turner, Susan Cotney (Greg); twenty-two grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home; 150 East Highway 20, Freeport, Florida 32439.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home with Reverend Joel Glenn officiating.

Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery; 1501 Talladega Highway, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150, with Military Honors by the United States Army.
