Peter F.
Smith
January 26, 1956 – December 2, 2022
We are heartbroken to announce the death of Peter F. Smith, a tender God loving man, who spread joy and kindness wherever he was. Peter passed away on 12/02/22 at the age 66 surrounded by family.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents Joan and Peter Smith, his daughter Jenny Smith, his sister Nan Beytin, his brother-in-law Ken Beytin, his step-sons Chad Baertsch and Wade Baertsch.
Peter was born and raised in Long Island, NY, and lived and worked many years in New Mexico. Peter and his wife Sherry moved to Florida in 2016 where they have been enjoying each other, retirement life, their "Swamp Ranch," traveling with their camper, and time with family as often as possible. Family describes him as strong, powerful, assertive, and respected. We love remembering fun times being silly with him when he always made us smile, laugh, and sometimes shake our heads. Known as PopPop by his grandchildren, they were his pride and joy. Peter enjoyed building beautiful spaces, especially outdoors, for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful gifts of God's creation. This includes his cookshack for awesome grilling and precious fellowship.
Peter lived to serve the Lord and was joyfully ready to do so however he could.
As he once put it, "like the parable of the soil, we're looking for the places to plant God's seeds while trying to become the good soil ourselves, but even good soil can become muddy at times. But that mud can be cleaned up due God's amazing grace!"
Peter will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be sadly missed by his wife and soul mate, Sherry, daughter Nikki Moran (Alex), sister Missy Keiser (Curtis), ex wife Joan Holub, grandchildren Natalie Smith-Nixon, Nevaeh Torres, Savannah Torres, Nickolas Torres, Bella Torres, step-daughter Jody Gehman, stepgrandchildren Kailey Trimmer, Eileen Gehman, Cameron Gehman, McKenzie Cruz, Gabriel Cruz, Ruben Cruz, Brianna Collazo, Cassius Collazo, Dannon Docktor, Philip Nay, and Victor Moran, brother-in-law, Rick Gunkel (Irene), sister-in-law Peggy Deboever (Clancy), nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends.
In honor of Peter's memory, we will be holding a celebration of his life. Details of time and place will be made known at a later date. If you care to give to a charity in his honor, Peter requested that it be to the St. Jude Foundation.
