Obituary

Pearl Ann Wood, 84, of Auburn, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026. Though her family’s hearts are heavy with the loss of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, they find comfort in knowing that Pearl’s earthly journey came to a peaceful end, and that she has been lovingly welcomed home into the kingdom of Heaven.

Pearl was born on December 13, 1941, in Albion, New York. She was a woman whose life was rooted deeply in her faith, her family, and her love for others. She carried the love of Christ not only in her heart, but in the way she lived her life—with kindness, compassion, generosity, and an unwavering willingness to help those around her.

Pearl married the love of her life, Pershing Wood of Darlington, Florida, in 1963. Together, they built a life centered around family, hard work, faith, and the simple blessings of home. They lived in Darlington, where they worked, raised their family, and shared many years together. Pearl and Pershing both had a deep love for the land and enjoyed gardening and raising farm animals. Their home was a place where hard work was never something to shy away from, and where family was always something to treasure.

For many years, Pearl and Pershing were faithful members of Limestone Baptist Church in Darlington, Florida. Her relationship with the Lord was one of the most important parts of her life. Her faith carried her through both joyful and difficult seasons, and she remained steadfast in the Christian values she held so dearly.

One of the special blessings in Pearl’s life was her lifelong friendship with Wynell Stafford. Their friendship began when they were girls in elementary school and continued throughout the many seasons of their lives. What started as a childhood friendship grew into a bond that was more like that of sisters. They shared countless memories, laughter, joys, and difficult times, always having one another to lean on. Through the years, their friendship remained a beautiful and lasting reminder of the special connection two people can share. Pearl treasured Wynell deeply, and their friendship was one of the precious gifts she carried with her throughout her life.

Pearl was a woman with a beautiful and giving heart. She was pure in spirit, never had idle hands, and always seemed to find a way to encourage someone who needed it. She had a special compassion for those who were less fortunate and was never too busy to lend a helping hand, offer a kind word, or simply be there for someone. She gave of herself freely, expecting nothing in return.

She found joy in the simple and beautiful things in life, especially crocheting, needlework, and tending to her flower gardens. She had a special love for flowers, and among all the flowers she cherished, sunflowers held a special place in her heart. Their bright, cheerful blooms seemed to reflect the warmth and joy that Pearl brought into the lives of those around her. Her hands were often busy creating something beautiful, whether through her needlework or in her garden, just as her heart was always busy caring for the people she loved. Those who knew Pearl will remember not only the things she made and the flowers she lovingly tended, but the love she poured into everything she did.

Pearl’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her son and daughters, Paul Wood (Amy), Helen Albano (Mike), Valinda Johnson (Randy), Rebekah Lloyd, and Susan Danley (Jacky), and Betty Wood; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Each of them carries a piece of her love, her wisdom, her faith, and the memories she created throughout their lives.

Pearl was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pershing Wood; her parents, Clayton and Helen Batt; her sister, Peggy Tracy; and her two sons, Johnny Wood and Sammy Wood.

Although the family will deeply miss Pearl’s presence, her love will never leave them. It will live on in the lessons she taught, the kindness she showed, the memories she created, and in the hearts of every person fortunate enough to have known her.

There is comfort in knowing that Pearl is no longer weary, no longer burdened by the cares of this world, and no longer separated from those she loved who went before her. When she took her final breath, she was welcomed with open arms by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and reunited with her beloved husband, Pershing.

Pearl spent her life loving God, loving her family, and loving others. Now, she has received the greatest homecoming of all. Her earthly life may have ended, but the love she gave so freely will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and generations yet to come.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
