Obituary

Norman Robert Koerner, 75, passed away on May 12, 2026, in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Born on August 16, 1950, in Owosso, Michigan, Norman lived a life defined by dedication, resilience, and a deep connection to his family and community.

From an early age, Norman’s adventurous spirit shone as he explored the banks of the Shiawassee River. He developed a lifelong passion for fishing and hunting and became an avid collector of classic American-made muscle cars, celebrating craftsmanship and history. Among the constants in his life were his love for classic cars and meeting Debbie Nicholson, the love of his life, in high school—a bond that remained central throughout his years.

In 1971, Norman married Debbie, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 54 years. Together, they raised two sons and built a life rooted in love and commitment. In 1982, the family moved to Houston, Texas, where Norman embarked on a noble career with the Houston Police Department. For ten years, from 1982 to 1992, he served as a police officer with steadfast dedication to fairness and dignity, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

After retiring from law enforcement, Norman divided his time between Houston and Florida’s panhandle. He developed a profound appreciation for Florida’s natural beauty—from Destin’s white sand beaches to the Everglades’ majesty. An annual tradition of alligator hunting became a cherished pursuit. In 2019, alongside his son Chester Koerner and grandson Barrett Koerner, Norman achieved a lifelong dream by breaking the state record for a female alligator.

Norman is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Koerner; his sister, Noel Koerner; his son, Chester Koerner; and his grandchildren: Barrett Koerner, Briley Koerner, Bailey Koerner; and his great granddaughter Knox Koerner. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman Otto Koerner and A. Jane Koerner; his son Barrett Koerner; his grandson Brody Koerner; and his sisters Norma Beckman and Karen Des Jardins.

Norman’s legacy is one of strength, leadership, and devotion. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. May it bring comfort to those mourning his loss.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 15, 2026 at Historic Gulf Cemetery; S County Hwy 393, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459 with Father Edgar officiating.
