Obituary

Nicholas Alan Rushing, a devoted husband, loving father, son, grandson, brother, and uncle, passed away on July 13, 2026, in Pensacola, Florida. He was born on October 21, 1987, in Panama City, Florida, and throughout his life embodied steadfast dedication to his family, his faith, and his community.

Nick graduated from Ponce de Leon High School in 2006, marking the beginning of a path defined by responsibility and service. Upon entering the workforce, Nick found his calling with the Department of Corrections, where he diligently served as a Correctional Officer for 15 years. Over his career, he rose to the rank of Major—reflecting his leadership abilities, reliability, and strong sense of duty. Nick furthered his professional development by completing various Florida Leadership courses for the Department of Corrections, earning respect from peers and superiors alike for his commitment to excellence.

Beyond his notable career in corrections, Nick contributed to the community in several additional ways. He worked as a school bus driver at Baker High School, providing dependable service and a warm presence to students each day. His passion for mentorship and teamwork was further demonstrated in his role as a baseball coach for the Junior Varsity team at Baker High School, where he inspired young athletes and fostered a spirit of sportsmanship. He also coached his kid’s soccer, T-ball and flag football teams.

Nick’s interests extended beyond his work. A dedicated family man, he cherished fishing trips and time spent with those he loved. He was also a passionate Florida State football fan. His Baptist faith was a pillar throughout his life, and he was a committed member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Baker, Florida.

Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Rushing, whose partnership and friendship he treasured deeply. He leaves behind five children: Isabelle, Mason, Levi, Clara, and Willow Rushing, all of whom will remember him as a loving and encouraging father. Nicholas is also survived by his parents, Willard and Sandy Rushing; his grandparents, Travis and Glenda Rushing, Sue Langford, and Judy Ponds; his brother, Zach Rushing (Whitney); and his sister, Whitney Paulding (Camron). Each of these family members reflects the profound influence Nick had as a son, grandson, brother, and friend.

He was preceded in death by several cherished family members whose memories remained close to his heart, including his uncle Troy Rushing, grandfather Thomas Ponds, aunt Cindy French, uncle Ted Ponds, cousin Trent Rushing, and father-in-law Dennis Brown.

Nick’s commitment to his faith, career, and, above all, his family stands as a testament to a life well lived—one marked by integrity, generosity, and unwavering dedication. He will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched.
