Melody Schoen Tooke, 71, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on June 29, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 3, 1954, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Melody was the daughter of the late Bob and Lillian Schoen. A woman of deep faith and quiet strength, she was the heart of her family and a tireless helper to everyone around her. Melody had a lifelong love of horses, which brought her together with her husband of 53 years, Rick Tooke. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and the land. She loved working on the farm, driving her tractor, and helping in the family land surveying business. She was also deeply involved in her daughter’s school years, volunteering extensively and supporting countless activities with her time and energy. Known as the epitome of strength and compassion, Melody touched many lives through her generosity, her ready smile, and her steadfast faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Lillian Schoen; her sister, Barbara Schoen; and her beloved husband of 53 years, Rick Tooke. Melody is survived by her daughter, Christina Tooke Hovermale, and son-in-law, Andrew Hovermale; her sister, Karen Banks; and many cherished nieces, nephews, their spouses, and extended family members who will carry her loving spirit forward.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:30 – 11:00 AM Thursday, July 9, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Mossy Head; 92 Hinote Rd, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433

A memorial service will be held for Melody (and her beloved husband, Rick, who passed just five days prior) will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 9, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Mossy Head.
