Mr. Strickland, age 90, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014. He was born May 15, 1924 in Chipley, Florida to Lewis Dan Strickland and Minnie Sims Strickland. Mr. Strickland was a resident of Walton County. He was Baptist by faith and a member of First Baptist Church of Woodlawn. Mr. Strickland was a veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor during the bombing that pushed the United States to enter World War II. He owned and operated Strickland's Garage for sixty-five years. He also worked as a Mail Contractor for the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed visiting with his friends who stopped by the garage and spending time with his family. Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his parents Lewis Dan Strickland and Minnie Sims Strickland and his first wife of forty-seven years Mary Mandy Strickland. Mr. Strickland is survived by four children Marianne Spray and husband Russ of Dallas, Texas, Charlotte Mathews and husband Larry of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Shela McCord and husband Rex of Wetumpka, Alabama and Malcolm Strickland and wife Jody of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, twelve grandchildren Nick Davis, Larry Paul Mathews, Wendy Wilkerson, Amanda Burleson, Marianne Gerhart, Jennifer Strength, Coot Ingram, Brandon Strickland, Blynne Strickland, Johnny Strickland, Joey Strickland and Zane Hodnett, as well as seventeen great-grandchildren. Visitation services will be held at 1:00~2:00 PM, Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Avenue in DeFuniak Springs, Florida . Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Avenue in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, with Reverend Ed Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy. Floral arrangements are being accepted. Clary-Glenn Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
