Obituary

Ms. Lola Byrd Ammons, age 92, passed away Monday, October 5, 2026. She was born on November 11, 1933, in Ponce de Leon, Florida, to George M. Byrd and Mandy (Adkison) Byrd.

Ms. Ammons was a resident of Walton County, Florida. She was Baptist by faith and a member of First Baptist Church of Apalachicola. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a woman of strength with a deep love for family and friends. There was no place more evident of that than her garden. She had a passion for gardening; her yard offered blooms in every season. She was always eager to share her wisdom, seeds, and cuttings, cultivating the love of nature in those around her. She enjoyed traveling, decorating her home and collecting antiques.

Ms. Ammons was preceded in death by her father and mother, George M. Byrd and Mandy (Adkison) Byrd; her loving husband of 62 years, Doyle Ammons; and brothers, James Byrd and George Byrd.

Ms. Ammons is survived by her children, Wanda Prichett and her husband Patrick of Dothan, Alabama and Robert Lynn Ammons and his wife Shirley of Apalachicola, Florida; her grandchildren, Angela Harrell (Rickey), Eric Pritchett (Bridget), Jessica Ammons, and Ellis Ammons; her great grandchildren, Shanna, Steven, Machaela, Alex, Brooklynn, and Jasiah; great-great grandchildren, Dillon, Delaney and Partick; brothers, David Byrd and his wife Deana of Ponce de Leon, Florida and Buck Byrd and his wife Diana of Bruce, Florida; and sisters, Bula King and her husband Eddie of Prosperity, Florida and Loyce “Von” Rushing of Ponce de Leon, Florida.

Though she is no longer here to tend to her garden, the seeds of love she planted in all of us will continue to grow.

A time of visitation will be held from 2:00 - 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Kenny Montgomery and Joel Glenn officiating.
