Lee McCormick Thomas II, born April 22, 1946 passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026 at the age of 80.

Lee deeply loved his family, friends, church and community. He was a strong and passionate personality, fully engaged in life, freely expressive and caring for the needs of his fellow man and community and someone who believed in putting feet to prayers for others through service. Friends knew Lee was boldly opinionated and loved a good debate. Though he often had differing opinions from many, his main priority was to make the community and world a better place for all people.

Professionally, Lee had careers he loved as an Air Force military police officer, city police officer, computer sales and program development. Later Lee pioneered the national channel development for Dickens Data Systems, Atlanta, Georgia, the largest IBM reseller for Unix platform in the world at that time. A touching recognition he treasured was being part of Walton High School Hall of Fame 1964 Football Team, Class A Conference. He cherished his school buddies, most of whom remained lifelong friends with whom he’d share breakfast or lunch meetings.

Upon returning to DeFuniak, he was a caregiver for his brother, Charles, and later his mother, Jo Thomas. He contributed to the community of DeFuniak Springs by serving on both the Planning Board and the Cemetery Board. He truly cared about our community. He loved his church family at First Presbyterian Church in DeFuniak Springs and served as an elder there. He especially loved participating in their community ministries through Vacation Bible School, Beth’s Kids Closet, and giving away pulled pork sandwich meals to anyone wanting one on the first Saturday of the month with his best friends. His favorite scripture was Matthew 25:31-45. He often said “God will always be there; everything else changes.”

Lee is lovingly survived by his brother, David Allan Thomas, his sister-in-law, Rachel C. Thomas; his niece, Mary Noelle Schultz and husband, James; his nephew Kendall Holt Thomas and wife, Lizzette, and beloved nieces Charlotte and Josie Schultz. Additionally surviving him are cherished friends, Angela Vines and Caleb Vines and his beloved cousin, Alyce Robertson and many other cousins.

Lee is preceded in death by his father, Lee M. Thomas, Sr.; his mother, Mary Josephine Holt Thomas; and his brothers, Charles V. Thomas and Steven K. Thomas.

Private family Graveside Services will be held September 2026, the date and time to be determined, at Magnolia Cemetery; 222 North Park Street, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433 with Reverend Cathy Mooney officiating.
