Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Katherine Gail Cole, a beloved mother, grandmother, and retired educator, who left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals. Gail departed this world on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving family and friends, just as she had cherished them throughout her life.

Born on July 15, 1945 in Fouke, Arkansas to Jeremiah William and Addie Rea Peacock Alford, Gail possessed an unwavering commitment to her family. She found immeasurable joy in being a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always putting the needs and happiness of her loved ones above her own. Her nurturing spirit and unconditional love created a warm and welcoming home, for anyone who walked through the doors. Gail's passion for education shaped not only her life's journey, but those of so many others. As a dedicated educator, she spent 39 years serving in the classrooms of Ponce de Leon High School, Niceville High School, Crestview High School, and Walton High School, as well as a Principal and Vocational Director of Walton Career Development Center, touching the hearts and minds of countless students. Her impact extended far beyond textbooks and blackboards; she instilled in her students a love for learning, fostering growth and helping them realize their full potential. Many of her former students credit her guidance and mentorship as instrumental in their personal and professional achievements.

A woman of steadfast faith, Gail approached life with grace and resilience. She faced challenges with strength and determination, always finding a way to overcome obstacles. Her unwavering spirit and positive outlook on life served as an inspiration to all who knew her.

Gail's love, kindness, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers William "Bill" Alford, Joel Alford, Gerry Alford, Gary Alford, Jordan Alford; and sister Hattie Burgess.

Mrs. Cole is survived by her husband RL Cole; son Craig Bludworth and wife Michelle; grandchildren Keegan and wife Caitlin, and Karrigan; daughter Capri and husband Creighton; grandsons Cayden and Camden; son Chris Bludworth and wife Edwina; grandchildren Devin and Olivia; son Dale Cole and wife Alicia; grandchild Rachel; great-grandchild Davis; grandchild Caleb and wife Erica; great-grandchildren Wyatt and Walker; daughter Teresa and husband Todd; grandchildren Stacee, RaeLee, and Logan; son Jack Cole and wife Cari; granddaughters Caslyn and Carston; brothers Douglas Alford, Steve Alford; and sister Nina White; along with a large extended family and friends who will deeply miss her presence.

In her final days, Gail was jokingly asked by a nurse which one of her children was her favorite as to which she quickly replied, "I don't have a favorite; I love them all the same." Regardless of whether you were connected by the bonds of blood or joined through marriage, her love knew no distinction. Her heart embraced each and every one with boundless affection, treating all with equal warmth and compassion. Her legacy isn't about a bloodline, it's about a mother's love.

A time of visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, August 11, 2023 at First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs; 216 Live Oak East, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 12, 2023 at First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs; 216 Live Oak East; with Reverend Ryan Alford and Reverend Greg Alford officiating.

Pallbearers will be Cayden Zodrow, Camden Zodrow, Brad Alford, Keith Alford, Keegan Bludworth, and Caleb Cole.

Burial will follow in Alford Cemetery in Darlington, Florida.
