Mr. Julian Bryan Adkison, age 98, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023. He was born on April 29, 1924 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to Jason David Adkison and Katherine Matilda Mathis Adkison.
Mr. Adkison was a resident of Canton, Georgia as well as a native of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He was Christian by faith and was a member of Shepherd's Chapel Church in Arkansas. He was an avid student of the Bible, spending many hours of study in God's word. He was a veteran of World War II serving his county in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Navy Reserves. He retired from the U.S. Navy Reserves with over 20 years of service with General Dynamics. He worked as an Aircraft Inspector with civil service at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas with over 30 years of service before retiring. He enjoyed bird watching, fishing, and he loved making knives.
Mr. Adkison was predeceased by his father and mother; wife Alma Burnell Adkison of 46 years; siblings Irene McDonald, Leroy Adkison, Clyde Adkison, Anette Commander; his oldest son Joseph Bryan Adkison; and granddaughter Heather Marie Adkison.
Mr. Adkison is survived by his children Rebecca Jones, Sheila DeLashmutt and husband Charles, Marlin Adkison and wife Joanne; daughter-in-law Debra Adkison; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Friday, April 7, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 7, 2023 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Charles DeLashmutt officiating; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Townsend, Jim Moore, Phillip Martin, Greg Williams, Jerry Campbell, and Donald Adkison.
Flowers are being accepted.
Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Navy.
