Mr. John Hugh Bass, age 88, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026. He was born on April 3, 1938 in Bruce, Florida to Malcom R. Bass and Ilene Donaldson Bass.

Mr. Bass was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He was Methodist by faith and a member of Alaqua Methodist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather brother and son. He was a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces having served his country in the United States Air Force, as a Staff Sergeant. He graduated from the University of West Florida receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree. He loved woodworking and leather making. He also enjoyed making knives. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM #170 DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He was also a member of the Hadji Shrine Temple of Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his parents Malcom R. Bass and Ilene Donaldson Bass; siblings, Donald Bass, Milford Bass and Melidine Bass and his first wife, Bobbie Jean Bass.

Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Rita Bass; sons, Tim Bass and Dan Bass (Wendy); granddaughters, Hope and Anna Kay; grandsons, Jacob and Daniel; great granddaughters, Mia and Frances; great grandsons, Parker and Valen and one sister, Olene Harvey.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Friday, April 10, 2026 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 10, 2026 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Fuller officiating.

Flowers are being accepted.

Burial will be held at Alaqua Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Air Force.
