Obituary

On Tuesday evening, July 12, 2011. Mr. Joe Pat Hunt, passed into the arms of God with his loving wife, Cherry, members of his family and loving friends by his side. Joe was born in Overton, Texas on November 18, 1940, one of 11 children born to Vernon G. and Pauline (Taylor) Hunt. Joe believed in God, Country and Family. He proudly served in Germany with the 32nd Armors Company C Division and received an honorable discharged, after his discharged he returned to Texas residing in San Angelo where his family was residing. Joe then went to work for Teledyne Geophysical moving to Panama City, Florida where he met his future wife, Cherry. After traveling the next 5 years for Teledyne, Joe and Cherry returned to San Angelo, Texas where he went to work for the San Angelo Police Department. Joe received the respect from his fellow officers and was recognized by the SAPD as an Outstanding Police Officer on the force, Joe was also President of the Fraternal Order of Police before his retirement with 25 years of service. After a few months of retirement Joe got bored and took a part-time job (only 40 hours a week) with the Grape Creek ISD where he became known by all the students, as PaJoe. Joe and Cherry returned to Panama City in 1997 and after a few months he got bored and went to work at Smurfit-Stone in the scale house, thus becoming known as Scalerman. He retired from Smurfit-Stone in 2009. Joe and Cherry moved to Freeport, Florida in 2000, where he remained until his passing. Joe was a Mason with the Carlsbad, Texas lodge. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Pauline Hunt, his brothers Billy Ross, Vernon G, Jr., Thomas and Jack. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Cherry Hunt of Freeport, Florida, sister Betty and husband Jimmie Varner, brother Bob Hunt, brother Don Hunt and wife Deloris, sister Marsha Sue Havins all of San Angelo, Texas, his sister Mary Covell of Odesssa, Texas and his sister Molly Pruitt of Abilene, Texas, Joe and Cherrys children, son Phillip and fiance Laura of Southport, Florida, daughter Angie and her husband Vince Poinite of San Angelo, Texas, son James and his wife Lisa of Lebanon, Illinois, his wonderful grandchildren, Chris Hunt, Devon McWright, Shandi McWright, Skylar McWright, Chelsae Hunt, Markis Hunt, Mabelle Hunt, and Conner Hunt; two great grandchildren Landynn and Aubriella, his Godsons Asa Davidson and Curtis Connally, and many great nieces and nephews. Visitation services will be held 2:00~3:00 PM, Sunday, July 17, 2011 at New Beginnings Church; 1564 State Road 20 West, Freeport, Florida 32439. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 17, 2011 at New Beginnings Church with Reverends Louis Taunton, Horace McCormick and Joel Glenn officiating. Burial will follow in the Black Creek Cemetery with military honors. Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Joe Hunt.
