Obituary

Mrs. Hazel Estelle Bell, age 89, passed away April 26, 2026 she was born on August 5, 1936 in Euchee Valley Community in Walton County, Florida to Christopher Columbus “Lum” McHenry and Minnie Ethel Bearden McHenry.

Mrs. Bell was a lifelong resident of Walton County, Florida. She attended the Beech Grove Church of God for many years. She began her working career as a custodian for Valley View School. Years later she went to work as a supervisor at Holmes County Shirt Company which she really enjoyed. She then went to work for the Walton County School Administration as a teacher’s aide at Freeport Elementary.

Mrs. Bell was a devoted and loving wife to her husband of 67 years. She was a loving, and caring mother to her son, and she truly adored her two grandchildren, and her three great-grandchildren which she loved so very much and loved spending time with.

Mrs. Bell could be seen a lot of times outside tending her flowers. She loved to garden, every year when the cane grew, they were ready to gather, her and her husband could be seen at their cane mill making cane syrup.

Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James Elmer Bell; one son, Ronnie Elmer Bell; two brothers, Christopher Columbus McHenry, Jr. and Malcom Belvin McHenry and one sister, Vera Peters.

Mrs. Bell is survived by her daughter-in-law, Gennifer Bell; one granddaughter, Shannon Bell Lang (Kahler); one grandson, Brandon Bell (Haley); one great-granddaughter, Finley Elizabeth Bell, and two great-grandsons, Micah Ryan Bell and Tate Jones Lang. She is also survived by three brothers, Hiram Mercer McHenry (Sandra), Lonnie McHenry (Sherry), and Kenneth McHenry; one sister, Peggy Elain McHenry (Steve) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Euchee Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery; 5551 C Hwy 183 S, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435 with Reverend Joel Glenn officiating.
