Obituary

Gregory "Pops" Brooks, 68, of Freeport, Florida, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Born on December 13, 1957, in Bluefield, West Virginia, Greg was the beloved son of John Ed and Mary Lee Brooks.

He lived a life marked by hard work, unwavering devotion to his family, and a deep love for his grandchildren. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with them, teaching them the things he loved most—baseball, fishing, and mechanics. He was especially proud to be involved in his oldest grandson's wrestling journey, where he became affectionately known to wrestlers and families alike as "G-Pa," alongside his wife, "G-Ma."

Greg spent much of his life behind the wheel as a regional and over-the-road truck driver. A talented mechanic, he enjoyed working on hot rods and race cars with his sons and grandson, sharing both his knowledge and his passion for all things automotive. After retirement, Greg and his beloved wife Connie embraced a life of adventure, traveling with their dogs, camping across the country, and making treasured memories together.

Greg will be remembered for his kind heart, his willingness to help others, his sense of humor, and the love he poured into his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the lessons he passed down to those he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Brooks; his children, Kyle Brooks, Karl Brooks, Kenneth Crompton, and Chelsea Crompton; and his six cherished grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ed and Mary Lee Brooks, and his brother, Tommy Brooks.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Greg's life and to share memories and stories on July 11, 2026 @ 1:00 CST, at his home located at 63 Ruth Road, Freeport, Florida.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated teams at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, STAT Home Health, and VITAS Hospice for the compassionate care, comfort, and support they provided during Greg's final days. Their kindness and professionalism brought great comfort to Greg and his family during a difficult time and will never be forgotten.

Though he will be deeply missed, Greg's love, wisdom, and spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His was truly a life well lived.
