Frederick Bentley Tooke Jr., 77, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on June 24, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on April 2, 1949, in Dunedin, Florida, Rick was the son of the late Fred and Marie Tooke. He lived a rich life filled with family, horses, work, music, and outdoors. A professional land surveyor for many years in Florida and Alabama, Rick took pride in his work and maintained a lifelong fascination with history. He was an accomplished guitarist who loved to play, and he was the person everyone at big family gatherings turned to for the blessing. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Rick also had a deep love for horses and all animals—a passion he shared with his wife, Melody, as that mutual interest is how they first met and built their 53-year life together.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Marie Tooke; his sister, Patricia Vogt; his brother-in-law, Gary Vogt. Rick was briefly survived by his wife of 53 years, Melody Tooke; he continues to be survived by their daughter, Christina Tooke Hovermale, and her husband, Andrew Hovermale; his brother, Mark Tooke, and sister- in-law, Faith Tooke; as well as, many beloved nieces, nephews, their spouses, and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:30 – 11:00 AM Thursday, July 9, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Mossy Head; 92 Hinote Rd, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433

A memorial service will be held for Rick (and his beloved wife, Melody, who passed just five days later) will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 9, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Mossy Head.
