Ethel Mae Harrison, 83, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida departed this life Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Chautauqua Springs Nursing Center. She was born on November 14, 1942 to Richard Ellis Harrison and Jessie Myrtle Danley.
Ms. Harrison was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. She was Christian by faith and member of First Baptist Church. During her life she worked at ZCHS lunchroom and was known as the “Cafeteria Lady”; baked cakes for a multitude of individuals; and supported her children at various football, basketball and baseball games. One thing she was known for was having a house full of children looking for a slice of pound cake or pecan pie and grabbing a handful of cookies, as well as sponsoring the yearly peanut boiling and bonfires at her home. In later life she was employed by Civil Service (Fort Rucker, AL) Chautauqua Chamber of Commerce and Tri-County Transportation.
Ms. Ethel was preceded in death by her mother – Jessie Danley Harrison, father – Richard Ellis Harrison; sister – Jewel San Phillippo (Johnny), sister – Ruby Slay (Gerald), brother – Herbert Harrison; sister – Minota Brents (Al); sister – Jean Nash Welland (Frank); and Sydney Ann Baker (Fred).
Ms. Ethel is survived by her son – Mitchell Maddox (Susan), Goshen, AL; son – Lucian E Maddox, Gautier, MS; daughter – Alison Maddox (Jeff Chandler), Sheridan, AR; son – Anthony Maddox (Patricia), Columbus, GA. sister – Faye Stewart (Jimmy), Mossy Head, FL and brother – Alton Harrison (Donna), Fort Worth, TX. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren – Bradley, Lindsay, Jared, Bria, Jessilyn, Lucian J, Brad, Jessica, Karson, Ava, Julianna, Harrison, and Isabella. 11 great-grandchildren – Christian, Alyssa, Kaylie, James, Christina, Alex, Addie, Hazel, Kiylynn, Dutch, and Paisley.
Receiving of Friends will be from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.
Celebration of Life Services will be held 6:00 PM, Saturday, April 11, 2026 Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Tami Morin officiating.
Thanks to the staff at Chautauqua Springs Nursing Center for taking care of “Granny” or “Miss Ethel” during her stay. Thanks also to the nursing staff of Peoples Hospice for take care of her and keeping her comfortable during her last days.
