Ernest John Skipper II, lovingly known to many as “Johnnie,” passed away on July 23, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on October 23, 1939, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to Ernest J. Skipper and Pauline Duncan Skipper.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years before attending Mississippi State University. A devoted Bulldog fan, he rarely missed cheering on Mississippi State football. He spent more than 20 years working as a mortgage banker, where his integrity and genuine care for others earned the trust and respect of those he served.

John was a man who loved life and, even more, loved sharing it with the people around him. Whether hunting, reading, admiring classic cars, or spending a day on the water, his greatest joy came from making memories with those he loved. Countless weekends were spent behind the wheel of his boat, patiently pulling children, friends, and anyone willing to try skiing or tubing. He never seemed to tire of making “one more pass” because seeing others laugh and have fun brought him as much happiness as being on the water itself.

Those close to John knew that he took extraordinary care of everything he owned. His vehicles, boat, tools, and belongings were kept in immaculate condition—a trait so well known that it became a loving family joke. His attention to detail reflected the care he put into every part of his life.

More than anything, John loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather who cherished every opportunity to be with them. He believed in the people around him, encouraged them wholeheartedly, and always saw the best in others. His wonderful sense of humor brought smiles to countless faces, and he was loved by many for his generosity and genuine heart.

John’s greatest love was his faith in Jesus Christ. A faithful member of Double Oak Community Church in Birmingham, Alabama, he found deep joy in God’s Word. Certain scriptures and sermons would often move him to tears as he reflected on the goodness of the Lord. His tender heart, quiet faith, and unwavering trust in God were evident to everyone who knew him and remain a lasting legacy for his family.

John was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Skipper; his mother, Pauline Duncan Skipper; his sister, Josie McGill; and his brother, Tom Skipper.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Skipper of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; his son, Clay Skipper (Kaci) of Fort Worth, Texas; his daughter, Claire Pierce (Matt) of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; his cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Skipper, Elizabeth Skipper, and McKenna Skipper of Fort Worth, Texas, and Piper Pierce and Quinn Pierce of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; and his brother, Patrick Fidelis Skipper of Brandon, Mississippi.

John’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, deep love for his family, laughter shared with friends, days spent on the water, and a life lived with joy and compassion. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and joyfully reunited with his Savior.

Celebration of Life Services will be held from 1:00 – 5:00 PM, Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Crownover Home; 160 Jamison Court Brandon, Mississippi 39042. Please come and go as you are able.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Double Oak Community Church at 115 Olmsted Street Brimingham, Alabama 35242.

Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Tucker, Mississippi.
