Elizabeth Hinote
Wise
July 3, 1931 – April 25, 2026
Elizabeth Hinote Wise was born on July 3, 1931, in Freeport, Florida. She passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a giving heart. She pursued a successful and fulfilling career as a teacher and reading specialist for McGraw Hill, dedicating herself to helping others learn and grow. A graduate of Florida State University and Troy University, Elizabeth took pride in her education and the impact she made through her work.
Her greatest joy came from her devotion to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She fondly treasured her role in their lives, creating precious memories that will be deeply missed. Elizabeth’s family included her daughter, Jacque Hammock Simmons and her husband Jim; grandchildren, Brandy Cummings, Shana Hammock, Jamie Tarkington and her husband Jeff, and Jessica Huff and her husband Derek; and her great-grandchildren, Sierra Tiner, Brecken Tiner, Joshua Tarkington, Emily Tarkington, Payton Tarkington, Caroline Tarkington, Luna Huff, and Owen Huff.
Elizabeth’s life was also enriched by her beloved church family as a devoted member of First Baptist Church Hendersonville. She found joy in attending Barbara Ward’s Sunday School Class, where she enjoyed fellowship and spiritual growth. In her final years, she resided at Clarendale at Indian Lake, where she formed friendships with the residents and staff. Among them was her favorite, Bill Storment, who she enjoyed sharing a good laugh with.
Throughout her lifetime, Elizabeth traveled extensively and especially loved cruising; she celebrated an impressive 100 cruises on her final voyage with family by her side. She was an award-winning seamstress who took pride in heirloom sewing and creating beautiful christening gowns. Elizabeth generously lent her sewing skills to charitable causes, using her talents to brighten the lives of others.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husbands, Felder Arnold Miller and Andre Wise; her children, JoBeth Hammock Buell and Mike Hammock; her parents, Herman and Lutrell Hinote; and her, Josephine Kelly and Herbert Hinote.
The family wishes to say a special thanks to the staff at Clarendale and Alive Hospice.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM At the Chapel of Sumner Funeral Cremation Lakeside
Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral Cremation Lakeside with Rev. Jeff Lake officiating.
She will be laid to rest on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 3:00 P.M. in Magnolia Cemetery, DeFuniak Springs, Florida under the direction of Clary-Glenn Funeral Home, DeFuniak Springs, FL where the family will meet on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. to go in procession to the cemetery.
