Obituary

Elizabeth (Lib) Ann Thompson (née Bell), age 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Wednesday, March 15, 2023. She was born on February 11, 1931 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Wyatt and Rena Bell.

Ms. Thompson was a resident of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Lib was a graduate of Charlotte Technical School and active in the Tech High Lunch Bunch alumni club.  She went to Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she received a degree in Education.

She worked and volunteered for the American Red Cross for over forty years, in aquatics instruction and certification and adaptive aquatics.  That storied career culminated with one of her favorite teaching assignments for the United States Marine Corps at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

She was a lifelong gardener and she and Don became Master Gardeners in retirement.  She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Charlotte, North Carolina for many years where she worked in the Loaves & Fishes food pantry and other ministries before joining a local Lutheran church.  She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and fantastic cook.  Her coconut cake was a favorite among friends and family.  The family created many treasured memories at the annual Bell July 4 th and Christmas parties throughout the years.  She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Ms. Thompson was preceded in death by her father and mother; her husband, Donald Thompson; and her five brothers, Frank, Wyatt, Robert, Joe, and Don Bell.

Ms. Thompson is survived by her two sisters, Barbara Kerr and Treva Mason; her four children, Bruce Thompson, Cindy Breedlove, Stuart Thompson and Erika Thompson; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Thompson, Marc Thompson, Samantha Tromly, Rebecca Hardy, Daniel Breedlove, and Jack Thompson; her four great-grandchildren, Frank Rijnbeek, Jacob Rijnbeek, Aelish Hardy and Rowan Hardy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private service for the family will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839.
