Obituary

Mr. Edward Buchanan Hollingsworth, Sr., age 89, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023. He was born on July 4, 1934 in Smithfield, North Carolina to James Henry and Annie Hall Hollingsworth.

Mr. Hollingsworth was a resident of the Westville area for 36 years. He was Baptist by faith and was a member of Leonia Baptist Church. He served our nation in the United States Air Force for 33 years as a Chief Master Sergeant. He was known as "Chief" having earned the following awards: Meritorious Service Medal with Four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with One Silver and Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal with Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Outstanding Airman of the Year Award, National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with One Silver and Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Training Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Mr. Hollingsworth worked as a manager on Eglin Air Force Base until he was 82 years old. He enjoyed going to the Elks Lodge, Air Commando scuba diving, and deep-sea fishing. He also enjoyed working on his farm feeding the deer and livestock, as well as taking walks with his beloved dog and companion, Piglet. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mr. Hollingsworth was preceded in death by his father and mother; and two sisters Frances Price and Lois Barbour.

Mr. Hollingsworth is survived by his loving wife Gerdena Hollingsworth; one son Edward Buchanan Hollingsworth, Jr. (Scarlett); two daughters Cassandra Hollingsworth, Tanya Hollingsworth; five grandchildren Wesley Hollingsworth, Jillian Hollingsworth, Sawyer Hollingsworth, Raven Clark (Andrew), Willow Motley; and three great-grandchildren Jensen Clark, Mason Clark, Lincoln Basford.

A time of visitation will be held from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Leonia Baptist Church; 1124 Gillman Road, Westville, Florida 32464.

Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Leonia Baptist Church with Reverend Rodd Jones officiating.

Flowers are being accepted.

Burial will follow in Leonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Air Force.
