Obituary

Mrs. Dixie Fleming Viverette, 90, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away June 8, 2024 in a DeFuniak Springs assisted living facility surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs. Viverette was born in Quitman, Mississippi, on August 10, 1933, to Sexton and Lola Fleming. She was married to Charles Lee Viverette from December 20, 1958, until his death in 2015. The Viverettes had lived in Pensacola since 1980.

Mrs. Viverette was a loving wife and mother. She was a Christian and a devoted member of Gadsden Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Intergenerational Sunday School class. She used her considerable cooking skills in meal preparation for the Young At Heart group. Mrs. Viverette had a sweet Southern charm and enjoyed playing card games and dominoes with friends and family in addition to her solitary pursuits on the Nintendo DS. For years she sewed for herself and her daughter. She loved crocheting afghans and throws for loved ones. Over the years she enjoyed the company of a succession of chihuahuas, until she adopted a Yorkshire Terrier, Silas, who topped them all.

Mrs. Viverette graduated from Meridian (Mississippi) High School and Meridian Junior College. For more than 50 years she worked in various administrative professional positions in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, where her dependability and trustworthiness were highly valued.

She is survived by her daughter, Dixie Leigh Viverette Grantham (Gaius) of DeFuniak Springs, her sister, Donice Fleming Tisdale of Meridian, her nephew, Colton (Paula) Tisdale, also of Meridian, and various other cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She was also very close to her son-in-law's sister, Cynthia Grantham Glasgow (Don), and brother, John Reynolds Grantham. Recently, she had adopted as family members her caregivers, Julie Elio, Oletta Ray, and Judy Binetti. She appreciated many other kind professionals at Sodalis Senior Living who provided care during the last three years.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, June 14, 2024 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home ; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435, followed by a graveside service at Bayview Memorial Cemetery in Pensacola at 2:30 p.m., with  Rev. Steve Winton and Rev. Francis Turner officiating.
