Mr. Derek Lane Burnette, Sr., age  27, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023. He was born November 3, 1995  in Montgomery, Alabama to George James and Sabrina Burnette.

Mr. Burnette  was a resident of  Midland City, Alabama. He was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He worked as a carpenter in construction. He was a softball coach for his children. He loved outdoor sporting events and especially spending time with his family. He also enjoyed his social media.

Mr. Burnette was preceded in death by his father, George James.

Mr. Burnette  is survived by his mother and dad, Sabrina and Tommy McElya of Midland City, Alabama; his wife, Stephanie Hill of Midland City, Alabama; three children; Tre'Shaun James, Skylar Burnette and Derek Burnette, Jr., one brother, Michael Harsey and wife Christina of Millbrook, Alabama; four sisters; Chasity Benner and husband Dylan of Tallahassee, Florida, Autumn McElya of Midland City, Alabama, Hannah Stonestreet of Montgomery, Alabama and Lexie Parker and wife Alexis Parker of Millbrook, Alabama. He was also survived by numerous cousins, aunt, uncles, nieces and nephews. Derek was loved by all who knew him and will be missed by many.

A Celebration of life will be held 6:00 PM, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Mt. Zion UMC; 2227 County 46, Prattville, Alabama 36067.
