Daniel Laird
Matlock
December 6, 1947 – February 17, 2025
Mr. Daniel Laird Matlock passed away February 17, 2025. He was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on December 6, 1947, to Helen Neal Matlock and Neel Matlock.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Greg, Chuck, Al, Jim, and Larry, and sister Judy York.
Left to cherish his memory are sisters, Mary Matlock of Michigan, Valerie Weber of Jacksonville, Florida, and brother, Steve Matlock of Lake Wales, Florida.
Three sons, David (Amanda) of Norwalk, Iowa. James (Emilee) of Orlando, Florida and Jonathan of Louisiana.
He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Nate, Erin, Emmett, Grant, and Clarence, as well as one grandson of the heart, Bradley Jackson as well as many nieces and nephews.
He shared a special bond with his friend and loving companion, Voncille McLeod.
Dan enjoyed fishing, reading, dancing, and was consistently eager for new adventures. He carried an introduction card that read, "Dan Matlock. Country Gentleman and Conversationalist." This often brought a smile and helped in forming future friendships. He was active in the community where he volunteered for the Chautauqua Assembly, Christmas Reflections and Grit & Grace. He was also a member of the Pilot Club and Krew De Yak for a short time.
He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and enjoyed hanging out with his friends at the VFW.
He owned Aero Heating and Cooling in Central Florida and later became a much beloved teacher. In 1984, he was recognized as Teacher of the Year and received this honor from then-Governor Bob Graham in Tallahassee.
No services will be provided. Burial will be by cremation.
