Command Master
Chief Johnny Robinette
December 19, 1962 – March 14, 2026
Master Chief Petty Officer (Surface Warfare/Seabee Combat Warfare) Johnny D. Robinette is a native of Tampa, Florida and enlisted in the Navy April 1985. Following recruit training at Recruit Training Command in Orlando, Florida. He attended Disbursing Clerk "A" School at Naval Technical Training Center in Meridian, Mississippi. In August 1985, he was assigned his first tour with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seven (NMCB-7), home ported in Gulfport, Mississippi. From 1985 to 1989, he deployed to Rota, Spain, Guam and Sigonella, Sicily. He qualified as an Expert Rifleman and was promoted to Petty Officer Second Class. In March 1989, he reported to Recruit Training Command in Orlando, Florida where he served as Deputy Disbursing Officer for establishment and maintenance of newly reporting Sailors financial and personnel records. He then applied and was accepted to the Training and Administration of Reserves program. He transferred to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia in January 1992. Early in his tour he was promoted to Petty Officer First Class. During his tenure at one of the largest Trident Submarine Facilities he received several letters of commendation and awards for outstanding achievements. This included the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. In December 1994 he reported to the USS CLARK (FFG-11) home ported in Norfolk, Virginia. His deployments included the Caribbean for counter drug operations and most notably Northern Europe. During the deployment for Baltic Operations, the CLARK visited Estonia, Germany, Norway, Scotland, Finland, London, Amsterdam and Ireland. The CLARK participated in a multinational annual maritime event aimed at improving interoperability and cooperation among regional allies. During counter drug operations the ship ported in Cartagena, Colombia, Trinidad, Curacao, Aruba, Puerto Rico and Guantanamo Bay Cuba. He earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare insignia while deployed in the Caribbean; prior to his departure, a board of his peers selected him for promotion to Chief Petty Officer. He would then transfer to the Career Information and Training team in Mayport, Florida in November 1998. In September 2001 he voluntarily terminated shore duty for orders to Guantanamo Bay Cuba. While serving on the island, Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay would grow to over 2,000 military personnel in support of detainee operations. After the events of September 11, 2001, his outstanding record of accomplishments led to the awarding of a Navy Achievement Medal from a tenant command for mobilizing reservists in support of contingency operations. In the summer of 2005, again a board of his peers would select him for the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. In September 2006, he was nominated and selected for a senior staff position at the Enlisted Placement Management Center (EPMAC) in New Orleans, Louisiana. Hurricane Katrina would divert him to Naval Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee along with personnel station at New Orleans. February 2009 he was promoted to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer and immediately applied and was selected to the Command Master Chief program. He served as the Full Time Support Community Manager Technical Advisor for over 8,000 Sailors. He then became the Enlisted Community Manager Technical Advisor for the entire Full Time Support community encompassing over 8,500 enlisted Sailors. He completed a successful tour of staff duty and earned his Bachelor's of Science Degree with Honors in Management. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 126) and was selected as Honor Graduate Gray Group. Additionally, he graduated from the Command Master Chief Leadership School in Newport, Rhode Island (Class 102). Command Master Chief Robinette came home to Tampa for his final assignment in the Navy. There he assumed the duties as Command Master Chief Navy Operational Support Center at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Master Chief Robinette is a qualified Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist. His personal awards include The Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and numerous campaign and unit awards. He retired after 30 years of service and lived in Tampa, Florida with his wife, Michele and his German Shepherd, Jethro.
Command Master Chief Robinette was preceded in death by father, Thomas Henry Robinette, Sr and mother, Betty Delores Durham.
Command Master Chief Robinette is survived by his loving wife, Michele Louise Robinette; children, Lieutenant Commander Stephanie Robinette-Moore, United States Coast Guard and her husband Commander Andrew Yash Moore, United States Navy and Senior Chief Petty Officer Tyler Michael Thomas Robinette, United States Navy and his wife Andrea Cabrera-Robinette; grandchildren, Margaret Robinette Moore and Lillian Cabrera Robinette; his service dog, Jethro; sisters, Pamela Robinette and Candice Policastri; brothers, Thomas Robinette, Jr., Garrett Durham and Bret Durham and step father, John Durham
Celebration of Life Services will be held at a later date in Tampa, Florida with Full Military Honors by the United States Navy.
Flowers are being accepted at the Moore residence on behalf of the family.
