R etired United States Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Charles Raymond Boland, 78 passed away at his home on Sunday, May 15, 2022. He was born October 19 th , 1943 to Charles (Red) and Mildred Spence Boland in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He was a graduate of Walton High School class of 1961. In 1962 he joined the United States Navy. He Married his wife Carol Straughn Boland in June 1963. He served in the Navy for 30 years retiring in 1990. During that time, he served overseas in the Vietnam War, was stationed at seven different Duty stations, sailed on numerous ships, underwater demolition team member, and was Chief Recruiter in Montgomery, Alabama and Dallas, Texas which was his final duty station. He retired with the rank of E-9 Naval Counselor Master Chief Petty Officer. During his military career he received numerous awards and commendations. After retirement he returned home to DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Where he worked at Ace Hardware, Professional Products and West Florida Farmers CO-OP. He retired to home life where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, western movies that he could rewatch 100 times. He had a great love for guns, knives and cowboy boots, of which he owned over 50 pairs, unfortunately for his family he had the smallest boot size of all. He always had a story to share which needed to be verified sometimes and the ability to make you laugh. One of his prized positions was his 1937 Ford pick-up truck that was recently refurbished by his son Curt. He was a good man to many friends and family.
Mr. Boland was preceded in death by his parents Charles (Red) Boland and Mildred Spence Boland, sister, Sandra Neeley and brother, Robert (Bobby) Boland, five uncles, John Boland, Hubert Braswell, Elwyn Spence, Delbert Spence and , DL Anderson, and three, aunts Thelma Anderson, Zella Mae Davidson and Della Mae Harris.
Mr. Boland is survived by his wife of 58 years Carol Straughn Boland, one daughter Tammy Boland Campbell (Ricky) Montgomery, Alabama, one son Curtis Spence Boland of DeFuniak springs, Florida, one granddaughter Charlie L. Campbell and one grandson Richard A Campbell III (Tripp) and wife Caroline, three sisters-in-law Lois Galloway, Mavis Allen and Ann Van Zant (Leon) and one brother-in-law Alto Straughn (Pat), one aunt, Irmalee Bass. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday May 19, 2022 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 20, 2022 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Doug Hogg officiating.
Flowers are being accepted or donations can be made to your favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Campbell, Richard A. Campbell III(Tripp), Mark Henderson, Jeff Edwards, Keith Alford and Dan Edwards.
Burial will follow in the Southwide Baptist Church Cemetery with military Honors by the United States Navy.
The family would like to offer a special Thank you to Dr. Thomas Roberts and Regency Hospice for their love and care provided to Mr. Boland during his final months.
