Obituary

Carolyn Edge Mora, age 93, of DeFuniak Springs, FL, went to be with her Lord on January 20, 2026. She was born on September 13, 1932, in the small community of Hammoc, Alabama, the younger daughter of Loris Ophelia and George Marion Edge.  At the age of eighteen, she married an air force soldier from Ohio.  During their time together, they moved to territorial Alaska, Wichita, Kansas, and Medina, Ohio, rearing three sons and a daughter.  Later, to advance her career in real estate with Century 21, Carolyn moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Buffalo, New York; and Tampa, Miami, and Ft. Myers, Florida.  When her children were grown and she was ready to retire, she moved back to her roots in DeFuniak Springs, FL.

Growing up, Carolyn lived the moving railroad life since her father worked for the L&N Railroad. She attended school in Walton County but graduated with honors from Tate High School in Pensacola, Florida. As an adult, Carolyn held various jobs. In her early years, she was a telephone operator, bank teller, and waitress. Her love was being a trainer and instructor for the Century 21 Real Estate Corp. Although Carolyn was dedicated to her career, she still found time to pursue her hobbies of bowling, ceramics/pottery, gardening, and gaming. In her later years living in DeFuniak, Carolyn served as a census taker, WGTX sales associate, and school aide for First Christian Academy.

Carolyn was the ultimate volunteer, giving of her time to myriad community and church groups. No task was too detailed or demanding for her. She was active in the community first as a hospital candy striper; then her volunteer opportunities grew to include Christmas Reflections, Tour of Homes, Garden Club, DBPA, Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood, and the July 4th Parade. At First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs, where she was a long-time member, Carolyn served as a Sunday School teacher, missions program leader, Vacation Bible School worker, Hearts & Hands food pantry assistant, First Christian Academy board member, and church library chairwoman, as well as serving at various social functions.

Carolyn loved being busy and helping others. Being a member of and the teacher for the Caregivers Sunday School class was an honor for her. This group of ladies enjoyed Christian fellowship on Sundays and during their monthly day trips. Carolyn could champion any cause due to her desire to stay busy, and she willingly joined in on fun activities, such as being a backup singer during local Elvis shows and acting out an episode of an "I Love Lucy" show where she portrayed Lucy frantically trying to keep the candy assembly line going smoothly. Carolyn loved traveling and greeted each trip as an adventure. She was always ready to go, to shop, and to visit. Trips with family to Disney World, Seagrove and Sunrise beaches, and the Tennessee mountains continued into her nineties.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Lewis Frank Cawthon, Jr., and her eldest son, Duane R. Mora.

She is survived by two sons, Randy Wood and wife, Kathy, of Lillian, AL; Dean Mora and wife, Lori, of Pittsburgh, PA; a daughter, Diana Vinson and husband, Eric, of Chipley, FL; daughter-in-law, Debbie Mora, of Sparta, NJ; and eight grandchildren: Brett, Stephanie, and Carley of NJ; Lauren and Jeff of AL, Nicholas and Samantha of PA; and Zachary of FL.  Eleven great-grandchildren and other family also survive. Many friends through the years held a special place in Carolyn's heart.
